User Reviews about Acer AO532h-2588 10.1-Inch Onyx Blue Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life

This Acer netbook is a compact, capable performer for basic applications. It really is thin and easy to transport. The keyboard is surprisingly large for a netbook and relatively easy to adjust to from desktops. The battery life seems up to expectations, and the Windows 7 operating system works well. This reviewer strongly recommends upgrading to a 2 GB memory to speed up operations. There are three USB ports, which allow use of external devices. This reviewer suggests adding an external DVD/CD player to make up for the one serious omission in the makeup of this netbook.

The "Acer AO532h-2588 10.1 Inch Onyx Blue Netbook" is highly recommended to users looking for a compact travel netbook with good basic applications. -- Compact and Capable...
First: It is not a Laptop/Desktop replacement nor does it claim to be. It is a netbook people :).

I am extreamly happy with this netbook. For a long time I would not even consider such an underpowered and light work device. For the past few months I started looking into buying a netbook for entertainment and small tasks on or away from my home network. My girlfriend has a iPad (as well as the latest iPhone which she is very unbappy with). Nice device for all that it does, but it is what it DOES not do for my having a netbook as my personal choice. There is a convience with that nice and slick touchscreen for browsing and all. I use it mainly to READ. Nothing else. I wrote a letter to justify her having it in the office. It was all garbage on how and what the iPad will do revolutionalize and increase productivity. Needless to 3 more are on the way and it has done nothing by giving entertainment while it was hot. Back to the netbook... The netbook's convience comes from what it has (Card reader, 3 USB ports, webcam, microphone, keyboard, etc. It weighs just a little more than the iPad. Bottom line for the comparison to the ipad: If I do not have use for the netbook, i will just use my iphone as they really are the SAME IMO.

My current setup is a e1505 2Ghz c2d Win7Pro laptop for home and a e6400 2.4Ghz c2d WinXP laptop for the office/road. This netbook completes the connection between home and office. This netbook allows me to take my home office/personal items away instead of mixing them on the workhorse.

I have no desire to upgrade from windows 7 starter. This is not a work laptop. I would pull my hair out and break it if I were trying to do work with it. I did uninstall programs that were not needed and install a 2GB stick of RAM. I installed windows security essentials but still debating if I will install norton for netbooks as I just remembered I had a copy and key. Norton works very well for my on the other machines, but resources are a concern with this netbook and playing around to see just how much i can get out of it.

For the price i paid ($200) and the functionality, I feel like a WINNER! This or the iPad, know what you want, know what you are looking for, and know what the pros and cons of the devices are. I have not experienced touchpad trouble, the keyboard is pleasant to use so I assume the complainers are burly grunts pounding on it like it is a full size computer..., the winLocker software was not a pain to uninstall as others have commented on.
-- Great for all It is SUPPOSED TO DO!
This is a great unit; quick, nice keyboard. The battery, however, lasts no where NEAR as long as described; I haven't gotten >4 hrs out of it. Delivered on time and as described. -- Great unit; battery issue
I've been using this netbook since February and I haven't had too many problems with it. I wanted a laptop but due to a pricing error my order was canceled and I bought this instead. I use it primarily for internet which works pretty good (especially when compared to my brothers Macbook which is clean and only a year old). It's lighter than a laptop or a textbook for that matter so it doesn't feel like a burden in my bag and the battery really does last all day so you don't have to carry around the charger (which is also pretty small).

As a gamer I should mention it plays Star Craft (1) and the Sims (1) pretty well but you may want a mouse for that. It also runs emulators like Project64 and ePSXe with no problems and of course I recommend a control for that.

Now for the bad. It has the same fingerprint magnet plastic that a PSP has. My headphone jack doesn't work too well anymore. So be sure to not use the big studio style headphones with the large plug, or it might move the jack out of place. Be sure to hold it from the middle like a book when your moving around with it opened because I noticed the keyboard popping out on the opposite side where I (used to) hold the netbook. It popped right back like nothing happened, lesson learned. Windows7 starter doesn't let you pick your wallpaper (that was a PO). And the worst part is heat. It gets hot at the bottom. You may have read that the N450 processor uses less power than the 270's and I guess they put a smaller fan in there because of that. So you may want to get a cooling pad. I didn't and it still works fine.

Other than that everything works great. Hulu and YouTube run fine at 360p. Netflix streaming runs smooth. I listen to Pandora with it. Despite that laundry list of flaws I'm still pretty happy with the product. -- Pretty good for my purposes.
Overall I like the net-book although I wish on the site it told you that it did not have a cd/dvd drive. I did not like how it came with windows 7 starter instead of the full Windows 7. I ended up paying a lot extra to upgrade and get an external cd/dvd drive as well.
However, it works fast, and the battery life is as good as they say. -- I like it
